VSP Vision Care in partnership with the American Diabetes Association (ADA), offer diabetes-focused training and education for you and your staff. Courses cover a wide variety of topics, including an overview of diabetes and diabetic-related eye diseases, nutrition, as well as co-morbidities. See a list of courses.

In addition to on-demand courses, live-virtual education is offered several times a year. Many of these courses provide complimentary COPE-accredited continuing education (CE) credits.

Locations displaying the ADA badge receive nearly 2X as many clicks to their appointment scheduler compared to those without a badge.*

    The ADA badge is displayed on VSP Find a Doctor Directory on vsp.com. It indicates that the location has completed diabetes-related courses offered through UUniversity and is committed to supporting patients’ overall health, as well as their vision. Courses are developed by clinical experts and reviewed by the ADA.

  • How to attain the ADA badge?

    The ADA badge is available to independent, private practices on the VSP network** Practices must meet the following requirements:

    • Have retinal imaging equipment
    • Complete diabetes-focused courses through UUniversity or attend a diabetes education event.
      • UUniversity - Two ways to attain the ADA badge by taking on-demand courses:
        • Complete two diabetes-focused COPE-accredited CE courses and the Essential Medical Eye Care course.
        • Complete the diabetes curriculum that includes 2 hours of diabetes courses developed specifically for staff.
    • Diabetes education events are held virtually a few times a year and provide 2-hours of COPE-accredited CE.

    Practices are notified via email upon complete and badges will be awarded the following month. 

    **Some exclusions apply, including retail providers.
